European LOTRO beta open for all

Postby Sayvara » Tue Mar 20, 2007 8:26 am

First impression: "Wow...". Took my breath away. The great outdoors from WoW made realistic and put into a less cartoonish world. And in the words of Satine: "We will be having role-playing servers!".

Sign up here (you can use your DDO account and add the subscription for LOTRO to it). You need to be a FilePlanet member but that is free. There is no need to be a paying member of FP.

It's friggin' beautiful... take a look. We're on the Northmoor server.

The combat and game system makes me shudder. Half a year of EQ2 really was enough to make me sick of "you hit me, I hit you, you hit me, I hit you, oh, I had more hitpoints than you, you are dead" - combat systems without any activity.

If I want gorgeous graphics with nothing behind it, I go back to playing Oblivion.

Why is everyone out to replace DDO? I'll never get it. :) (Though I will have a look at Warhammer if they ever manage not to go bankrupt before going to Beta... that's what? Their fourth try?)

It's true that... the mechanics of D&D is a huge factor in DDO.

Then again... I'm in it mostly for the roleplaying, and there is your answer as to why I'm replacing my DDO time for something else. DDO lacks in te roleplaying department. LotRO has much better potential.

Mmmhm. I'm with Sayv on that. Gimme a good setting and good rp-tools, that's all I want.
I'm replacing DDO after the campaign because the world is small and ugly, so are the characters, and there is little to no catering to RP. That's why.

I concur with Ana on the battle system. Its quite basic in mostly all its aspects... Items are the way to move up in the game, and a little knowledge of cool down and knowing your adversary...

However. All the mentioned RP factors and the world at large both storywise, music-wise and scenery related weighs it up towards a positive experience, for me at least.

I must say I did not expect to be that impressed. This is a good game.

Way to go Turbine!

Yours

Might as well try it; on WoW atm, not really RPing and not feeling like it, but LotRO might have some potential. You'll know when you'll see me. ;)
