Part 1
“It was the night before Christmas, when all through the house. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; Well perhaps an imp or two and the sound of a fey… Wait! Wait! Wait! An imp!?”
Volgh blinked intensly as hey laid his eyes on the cheery old dwarf standing near the bugbear auctioneer in the harbour of Stormreach, the short fellow’s rosy cheeks and radiant white smile making him way more attractive to the eye than the humanoid’s hulking posture and vicious-looking tusks, his red and golden robe giving a sense of aristocracy and warmth around him.
“Hohohoho! Well met lad!” the dwarf spoke up in a warm and strong voice, “I am Festivus, the Festival Jester!”
Volgh blinks at the dwarven fellow, pondering, contemplating about the folk’s odd ways. He then stops, kneels and starts rummaging his backpack, soon producing a leather satchel.
“Uhm.. Do you collect those coins I found, short red sir?” Volghs asks simply, blinking, outstretching his hand holding out the bag.
“Aye lad! That I do!” the dwarven fellow smiles in a warm smile, holding out to reach for the bag of coins, when suddenly Volgh pulls his hand back violently.
“But it’s stupid!” he exclaims, “You cannot buy tings with these coins! What will you do with them?” he goes on, shrugging and blinking, confused.
“No worries lad! I will find something te do wit’ them!” Festivus laughs full-heartedly, “And just because ye have been a good boy, and brought those te me, ye shall be rewarded for bringing those te me!” he grins.
“I have?” asks in a high pitched tone, surprised by the statement, blinking, while the dwarf tapped Volgh’s satchel with the end of his candy cane staff.
“There ye go! Ye don’t mind me throwin’ some lumps o’ coil in there, do ye lad?” the man chuckles.
“Huh?” Volgh blinks, still not understanding what had happened.
“Open yer bag, little fella!” Festivus insists, while scratching his white beard, smiling, leaning on his candy cane staff.
Volgh nods, acting accordingly, his bag of holding now containing gingerbreads in forms of a Marilith, Beholders, Dragons and Titans, jelly cakes of a multitude of colors, candy canes. He blinks and beams happily.
“Sweet! Sweets!” he exclaims; he wouldn’t have to sneak into Lomea’s lab and drink her potions for some days at least. “Thank you a lot short read and white dorf sir!” he says still eyeing the candy and trailing off, making his way back towards the Thorn tower, in the outskirts of the city.
“Sure lad! Bring me more if ye find any!” Festivus laughs as children of Stomreach approached him, waving at Volgh.
Back at the Thorn Tower
Volgh eyed the satchel that was lying on his bed, his stomach growling intensely after an hour of calculations; after all being the Head Clerk was not an easy job, especially when you had to put up with each of the Thorns’ nuttiness
Volgh groans, hunger making his head buzz as he walks towards his bed and opens his satchel, producing a Beholder cookie. He stands and smirks at the sight of it.
“Stupid Daelkyr!” he grins, “Now it’s my time to eat you!” he chuckles and takes a bite at the cookie. He suddenly blinks, the cookie’s taste sublime, the spices warming his throat and satisfying his hunger instantly when suddenly…
CRASH!!
Volgh blinks eyeing his surroundings; he was tossed against the wall, a sharp pain obvious on the back of his head, his stomach making strange sounds. He then stands up and grins, rubbing the bump on his head.
“Now this will be fun…” he grins mischievously…
