Motivations

Postby Archibold » Mon May 14, 2007 9:59 am

In light of the "Awakening" event , i have come to think of the motivations of our characters in the fight against Sauron.

It is clear to me that some of our members had closer encounters with the might of corruption and evil. And than again some - namely Archibold (i can not speak for others) have no clear picture of danger looming over Middle Earth.

"Awakening" was a fine example of great looking , and epic event - but i feel we will need something more unifying , or should i say "call for action" - something that would make us all ready and willing to risk everything to fight the evil that we now fully understand poses a treat not only to us but to everything that we know and hold dear

...

What do you think ?

I agree. Adjanah so far is more or less oblivious to Sauron as anything other than a myth.
Well, an obvious way would be to use the ongoing storyline. It does mean we more or less need to do it together, but it would be a nice focalpoint, at least for starters.

Actually, i have a an idea that would certainly give each of us a push , but i will not discuss it here.
It should be only for GMs ears

Yeah... Felaion had a serious encounter with the Will of Sauron, and lost, so although he knows quite a lot about recent movements in Mordor, and the ongoing War, he has no motivation to fight one little bit! He also has openly stated that he believes they have no hope whatsoever.
In simple, his heart has already been overthrown by Sauron's Will.

Sayvara's motivations for the moment are simple: it's a job.... and seemingly a fun job, ordered by someone who actually seems to have his shit together unlike some of the airheads she has done merc-missions for in the past ten years since she got kicked out of the academy. She will get to use a fair part of her skills and get some appreciation for it. Plus that this band of people so far are quite a nice, friendly and - maybe most importantly - capable bunch that she likes being around.

Haelewulf has spent most of his life (that he can remember) travelling with his father, and so he's seen the corruption spread, but he's never been into Mordor itself, and although he's been through Mirkwood, he's never been near Dol Guldur while Sauron was occupying it, so his experience of Sauron himself is actually fairly limited.
His motivations are initially to halt the corruption by fighting the orcs and goblins that are spreading over Eriador so as to preserve the beauty of the lands he loves.
It won't be too long before he realizes that to kill the snake, you cut off its head, but he's not there yet.

Aye. I concur with you Archie. One thing though. I do not wish we rush things. Yes, we need something more unifying, but first the very foundation of the characters and their relationship must be tested, improvised and planned among us. But aye we definently need to plan an epic event where the reality of the situation dawns on the Thorn.

Concerning Lirandel's motivation... you will just have to find out IC
Suffice to say, he has seen what the taint of evil does best.

Sincerely
