The Player's Guide to Roleplaying in the Black Thorns Old Republic

So who are the people behind the Old Republic BT Project. To cut it very short and without too much hassle. We are casual yet ambitious in giving ourselves an RP treat. We are mature yet far from boring. we are open minded to ideas yet wants balance and a touch of realism in our RP. And last but ranking higher than everything else here - We started as Rpers and eventually we became good friends.
Some of us stay in contact through Facebook, others travel around the world and occasionally chime in on our forum. Whatever the case may be the fact remains - you stumbled upon an rping Thorn and your path led you to this thread.

We all bid you welcome!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Pitch, the Plot and the Storytellers

As you might have discovered we do things a bit differently than everyone else. That being said, everyone else also does things differently than us. Potato, tomato. Roleplaying is Roleplaying.

So what is this Pitchfork thing and what's it got to do with me?

The Pitch is the underlying motivation for your Character to join the Thorn. When you roleplayed you either had an OOC reason to join the Black Thorn but your character did not? Or your character did have motivation but you needed to talk to the right person or gain the right knowledge which would take and build up the necessary relationship. And while doing all this felt a " bridge" between you and the Rpers on the "other" side?

That is why it is important to create a Pitch specifically for your character. Giving you, the player, enough momentum to go directly ahead and RP while we are aiding either OOC or IC support all the way. However, we do understand that some players want to do it the old fashioned way of building the relations naturally and depending on In Character reactions will decline or accept to be a part of the Black Thorn. In this case no pitch will be given on the other hand neither will we try to support and tunnel the player to the guild plot as we respect this kind of RP style. More on the IC/OOC RP support further down.

Plot, what?

As you might have already realized the Black Thorn's pitch in the Old Republic is very much keyed to the overall Plot and thus the reason of the Thorn being together in the first place. Whether you play Smuggler, Trooper or Jedi makes little difference in the grand scheme of things related to the Legend of the Black Thorn. The Guild plot is meant to be as loose and as behind the scenes as possible. Occasionally turning up in larger guild or server events. Aside from this it is your responsability to show initiative and create smaller plotlines with your fellow Thorn. We support and encourage this and even more so respect the fact that fellow Rpers dreams of different stories they want told.

The Black Thorn Storytellers

Which leads us to the storytelling and the Storytellers. Now you might think that a Storyteller is a person that knows everything that goes on story-wise and got the insight of every member's background and hidden secrets to boot. This is very far from the truth.

The truth is that our Storytellers are more coordinators than anything else. Yes, they do create events for the Guild. Whether it being a grand scale, server wide, all encompassing spectacular showdown or just a casual bar fight, adventure or meet and greet event. But they are always based around the members as a whole than a specific player's wishes and desires.

Suffice to say, every member is a Storyteller so if you got ideas but feel a bit unsure as to how to proceed with your event - ask your Contacts or send a message here on the forum.

Support

In conclusion to the above mentioned guide follows a list of contacts to help you with establishing your character. Remember that members of the Black Thorn has two contacts. a Primary and Secondary which is in accordance with your class. It should be noted that this support is so far restricted to your Main Character and not Alternative Characters. If you wish to switch to another Main please give the necessary information to the relevant contact.

Jedi Primary Support: Vagandro
Lieutenant Secondary Support: N/A

Smuggler Primary Support: Brianna
Lieutenant Secondary Support: N/A

Trooper Primary Support: Antora
Lieutenant Secondary Support: Sayvara

Next up is Roleplaying within the three Factions: Smuggler, Trooper and Jedi.

To be posted next week.

Medal of the Black Thorn

Legend suggests many things about the medals awarded to the crew of the 'Black Thorn'. Never appearing amongst the lists of Republic Commendations, only a small number of these medals were ever awarded. Assigned to civilian actions of valour during a specific skirmish during the Mandalorian Wars, the expense of smelting such one-off comendations has been a subject of critisim in the past. Some rumours suggest that the medals were never smelted, just plucked off the ground by a grateful Republic Admiral.

As one might expect, the design is simple. Marginally off-circular, the shape of the metal base for the medal is just slightly teardrop in shape. Smooth, silvery metal lies beneath the years of rough oxidation that will now mar the surface of the medal, and nothing short of a strong acid would reveal it's untarnished surface again. Upon it's forward side, a star rises from the medal, it's upright 'beam' longer than the others, so that the star's center is lower than the centre of the disc. Upon the rear-side, the medal holds no decoration, although it is considerably more rough on the back than the smooth sides around the star on the front.

Either it never had, or any cloth 'tab' has long been lost from the medal. Often, now - it is worn upon a chain or string around the neck, if worn at all.

Thus far...

Recent excursions by the company of the Black Thorn to the planets of Tatooine and Taris have already revealed a number of key pieces of information that will no doubt be invaluable to the crew as they hunt for the legendary lost vessel.

On Tatooine, they fought together against a great beast of the desert and were victorious, discovering that they are a powerful fighting unit together. In contemplation within Anchorhead, the Jedi uncovered a method of discovering the location of missing medals by listening to the 'beat' each one resonates to the others. Furthermore, cleaning a medal reveals a unique symbol upon it's smooth reverse, identifying each one as different. Within the corpse of the great beast, a strange cylinder is uncovered - and the presence of the Sith team also hunting the Black Thorn is felt, but thankfully not experienced...

On Taris, another beast is fought - the Thorns forced to consider the morality of their actions. Opting to save a Sith from it's torment and put it down, they uncover another cylinder, mysterious as the first. Bringing them together may yet reveal further excitement, mystery and danger...

Someone should probably clean this thread up, maybe make individual threads for these posts or something.
