Punching bag

Holy green spandex outfits, Batman! Let out your inner superhero, or that dastardly demagogue we know you keep hidden in your brainy bits.

Punching bag

Alright...lemme try doing this post without sounding like a whining bitch...
This post is dedicated to all of us as a whole, but not aimed at anyone in particular. Some of you may recognise yourself in some of the examples I make, others may not. Look at it more as a plea than a pointed finger in the ribs. I'm not angry, but I am a bit frustrated.

To put it simply: Guys, you gotta give poor Jetflare a break. I know you're supposed to be pubescent teenagers, but seriously, you're going through a program to become a superhero, not training to be scouts or cheerleaders. We're not in gradeschool here and it feels to me like at least some of you decided to make your characters...well...overly stupid. I feel we're fast approaching something akin to a sitcom with Jet as the main target of all the kids' shenanigans, and while that may be fun for a while, I gotta admit it is getting a bit old. Jet isn't intended to go through life nursing a cluster of ulcers in his stomach or growing grey-haired before he's 35, and lately he haven't been able to hold up a conversation with some of you without nearly blowing a vein.

You're trainees in a highly select situation. A minimum of discipline could be expected, I think. You're all supposed to be going through some rather rigorous training. You are not just placed in the base with nothing to do but watch porn and eat icecream.

Lemme make it as clear as I can, from my point of view at least: We're going for "lighthearted". Lighthearted doesn't mean "stupid". Lighthearted doesn't mean we can't take this seriously and get some serious RP. Lighthearted means down on drama, but up on adventure. We're supposed to be a team, out there doing daring-do and saving the world. And unless we get at least a TAD of discipline implemented, I can't see how we can keep this up without Jet eventually saying "fuck you all" and leaving. He's supposed to be out there, fighting crime and doing his to turn you all into crimefighters, not babysitting a cluster of teenagers that just go "fuck you old man, you ain't the boss of me!".

I'd really like to hear your take on this. Nothing is put in stone, everything can be changed. But these are my thoughts, and I need to tell them to you, because it is starting to affect my enjoyment of my character. I want Jet to be a hero, not a chronically furious malcontent.

I hear ya, bro.

We sorta went from lighthearted to completely casual... too far the other way, I feel. And still the drama hounds us somewhat.

I honestly feel that if we strive to keep the drama external, we can keep everyone happy and keep the ethos of CoH firmly intact.

By external, I mean that adventurous RP'ing can and should include some drama. We're heroes, dammit, and entitled to some adrenaline-fuelled crimefighting heroics! ;)

Battle cries, mad rushes, victories snatched from the jaws of defeat, threats... you name it. Upswing in particular has the threats and smack-talk nailed. ;)
There's a lot of the game that I feel we're just not focusing on at all, and right now, it's THAT bit that I'm interested in.

Baddy-smacking RP FTW!! :D

Drama can be fun.

Darker more taumatic drama, say like sayvara's captain arch nemesis and people abused and long term traumatised so they become long suffering depressives is the kind we don't want.

Lighter more heroic drama where we go through the pain and break out the otherside standing victorious and happy is what we want drama wise.

and yeah I do kind of get you, we want a more humourous xmen than a kindergarten. if you get my meaning.

Yes. I see your point Adj.

Too much of the same material can kill the experience. In Jetflare's case it's being the Kindergarten Cop.

Sadly... I made Upswing a bit of a rebel. in the ways that he wants the mentors to earn his respect. Really naive I know. But it makes for a good beginning of things. This is due to him not being overly trustful of others, self reliant, Head strong. and all those million background schemes I have been thinking about. Jet, Sack and Slink was somewhat the focus points for this idea. But I can understand that this is too much and at the wrong time to be playing that card towards Jet. Seeing as he is allready blowing veins and losing his temper in the first place.

So. I will turn it towards Sack in the training sessions and Slink when I have to etc. In a character progressive manner of course. Truthfully... It was never meant to create a "negative" mood. But to evolve the light hearted rp although with a serious tone. I played that card last night for the second time, when Upswing was more concerned with Vixen and her current state than Jetflare giving orders. As Jetflare in Upswing eyes is nothing more than a failed Quarterback ,who never made it to the Superbowl. And Vixen... Well lets just leave it at that.
But Upswing will of course learn that the american dream is more than just Girls, Football and Putting the SMACK A DOWN on the Peeps. :)

Suffice to say, for my sake, I will pipe down the rebellish behaviour towards Jet. And change it to a more silent scrutinous rebellion. :) Thats it from me really.

Yeah... I hope I understand what your saying Adj, and it is a little mean on poor Jet. I hope I'm not one of those being awkward, but I KNOW it's me that manages to get a tad too much drama wound up into things.

So, for the time being... I'm going to sit back and enjoy a ride.
