About two weeks later

As always, the sound of the sharpening-stone making its' "swish-swish-swish"-rounds on her blades served to calm her nerves...let her breathe freely, every other "swish" accompanied by a steady intake of air between her parted lips. Her eyes were closed, her tussled red hair half-obscuring her sleep-deprived face. No, not many had the hours of sleep been for Adjanah lately. At best, a few scant moments of dream-ravaged slumber, only to sit up rapidly, beads of sweat rolling down her forehead.

Drive in the blade, feel it hit the spine, rupture the throat, feel the blood, sticky, sticky, sticky, hear him gurgle, see the scream in his eyes.

No, not much sleep for Adjanah. The long days had taken their toll on her...keeping much to herself, avoiding the looks of the others. She'd left a note with Liz at the Combe inn, the hostess casting Adjanah a worried look at the sight of the rims beneath her eyes. Pressing a silverpiece into Liz' hand, she'd smiled and told her everything was alright, just see to it that the note reaches a Thorn. The smile had been hollow, never reaching her eyes.

Harder, harder, press the blade in deep, still life in his eyes. Do it! DO IT! Twist it, make him scream, fill his lungs with blood! So close now, see it in his eyes!

She shuddered, the blade coming to a halt on the sharpening-stone. Pressing a hand to her mouth, she stiffled a sob, pushing the tears back behind her eyes with sheer force of will. A few seconds of getting her breathing under control passed...then she pushed the blade back in motion, the gleaming elven blade so sharp now that it left an imprint in the stone, chiselling away small black bits of grit with each stroke. Her hands moved on their own, the motion so natural to her she didn't even think about it.

Yesss...his eyes! See the terror! Close now. Savor it. See life leave him. Now the blade...push up. Up! Cleave his lying, scheming neck. Traitor. Liar. LIAR!

Banishing the vision with a feeble scream, she hurled the blade in a fluid motion into a nearby wooden beam, the keen elven steel sinking effortlessly into it, cutting it like butter. She panted and shivered, looking at the blade quivering in the wood. "Feckin' hell...wha' is bloody wrong wif me...is justa feckin' man...a low-down piss-faced piece o'...I dealt wif his kind b'fore...why's this one hurt so feckin' much..." She groaned and rolled her shoulders, slumping on the edge of the bed she sat on. "The others mus' be bleedin' sick worryin' 'bout me...feck..."

Dead.

She growled and got up, moving over to pull the blade out of the beam with some effort, sheathing it deftly. Casting herself a look in the mirror, she nearly took a startled step back, but instead moved over to get a good long look. She frowned, wrinkling her nose. "Bleedin' hell...no wonder he feckin' left..." She sighed. "Feck...enuffa this bleedin' mopin'...gonna hunt tha' shit-eatin' sonuvabitch down...but firs'...gotta find me Thorns...I needa hug..."
