With the SoE update, we now have dice!
*And there was much rejoicing*
Typ /roll <range> and the server will make a random number between 1 and the number you typed as <range>. The result is visible to the fellowship. So /roll 6 gives ya a number from 1 to 6... a regular six-sided die.
So... of course we need... dice games! Here's the first one
Threes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threes
This game is played with five dice.
The object is to get as low score as possible to win a turn. Dice are scored by their value when kept, i.e. a kept 4 is worth 4 points. Exceptions are 3's (after which the game is named) that are worth 0. Another exception 6-6-6-6-6 ("Shooting the moon"= which out-trumps everything else and counts as an immediate win.
For each turn the players place an ante on the table.
Roll one die each to see who starts. Highest roll wins. Order of play is to be decided by the players.
First player in the turn rolls five dice. The player decides which dice to keep. The player must keep at least one die.
Here the rules are a bit fuzzy... the player can either make all his rolls now... or each player can make one roll each in turn for more excitement and tactics. I prefer the latter.
The players keeps rolling until all dice are kept. The sum of the dice for one player is that player's score. The lowest score wins.
In case of a tie, there is a playoff, which is exactly like a turn, but only for the players that tied. In other words, an ante is added to the money on the table, roll one die to see who starts, then roll until all dice are kept.
The winner takes all money on the table.
Example turn, using the latter variant of the rules.
Sayvara, Felaion and Kellidir are playing. The turn starts.
They place 5 silver on the table each as the ante.
The roll one die each... Sayvara: 2, Felaion: 5, Kellid: 6. Kelli starts.
Kelli rolls 4-3-6-2-1. Kelli decides to keep 1-2-3... her score currently being 3.
Felaion rolls next, getting 6-5-4-6-6. Felaion decides to be bold and keeps 6-6-6.
Sayvara rolls, getting 2-2-5-6-4. She keeps 2-2, her score being 4.
Back to Kelli. Having kept three, she has two left to roll. She rolls 1-2 and is happy with that and keeps both, her score being 6.
Felaion also kept three, two left to roll. He rolls 5-6. He keeps the 6, his only chance to win.
Sayvara kept two. She rolls her three remaining, getting 3-1-6. She keeps 1-3, her score now being 5 with one die left to roll.
Kelli is finished so the roll is passed on to Felaion. He goes for broke, hoping for a 6 which would make him the immediate winner. No such luck though... he rolls a 4 and ends up with a score of 28.
Sayvara rolls her last... she has kept 1-2-2-3, versus Kelli's 1-1-2-2-3. In case Sayvara rolls 3 she wins; in case she rolls 1 there is a tie and playoff between her and Kelli; everything else, Kelli wins.
Clear enough?
