What are your Virtues?

Postby Emberyn » Fri Jun 08, 2007 6:29 pm

I had the idea for this topic when I saw Sayvara's Vice thread. As she said, none of this reflects the skills and abilities of your character, merely the good points of there personality. Moving to the point...

Which two virtues do you feel represents your character best?

As a reminder, the list of the main seven:
meekness, humility, generosity, tolerance, chastity, moderation, and zeal.

Emberyn's do not come to mind at the moment... I'll add 'em in a bit. For now, post away!

Chastity vs Lust: Lust. Wholesomeness, purity or betterment is not for Sayvara. She does train to become a better swordfighter... but that's it. And she does like sex too much to give it up for some pointless promise of abstainance.

Moderation vs Gluttony: Gluttony. She is not one to say no to a good party, a drinking binge or a grand feast.

Generosity vs Greed: Neutral. She gives and she takes in fairly equal amounts. She is grateful for gifts and she gladly gives.

Zeal vs Sloth: Zeal. She doesn't mind work at all... in fact she likes it. Those that have had to go on a speed march with her knows that she even enjoys putting herself to the test. She is slightly disorganized though, going on impulse more often than having a planning.

Patience/Peace vs Wrath: Wrath. Impulsive, and with bouts of rage. She has a short temper at times. She is eager to get going.

Meekness/Kindness vs Envy: Neutral. Fiercly loyal to those she loves. Kind of indifferent to others but will easilly throw herself into a battle to help someone against an enemy. Doesn't envy those that has more... just feeling that wealth makes people do silly things so she doesn't quite aspire for it.

Humility vs Pride: Both. As a leader she willingly gives praise to those that have excelled. And she knows her own capabilities. She has good confidence in herself.

Chastity vs Lust.: Chastity. This is his first primary virtue: Lirandel has honed his battle skills ever since the first war. That gives him a strong sense of self reliance and strength. Or so he feels. He is not the one to be shaken by fear, his own hurt pride or petty squabbles. He will never back down from a conflict and he always trusts himself to see things trough, his way! Either by cold measured wits, or pure skill of weaponry. As long as he wins in the end. The goal for the Thorn has been achieved... He will die for the Thorn... This strength stems from the fact that he has only bound himself to one woman in his entire life. Other than that he has solely worked towards his combat prowess. Worked with a vengeance. In other words he has gained clear focus from his chosen chastity... Until now...

Moderation vs Gluttony: Neutral. Being around humans have made him neutral in this aspect. And therefore also more apart from his kin.

Generosity vs Greed: Neutral. He is generous at time and things of nothing in return. While for people he dont trust... They better pay up! Again this have made a gap between his kin and himself.

Zeal vs Sloth: Zeal. This is his second primary virtue: He is in other words all about the mission ahead. And he has no time for himself or anything outside the agenda of the Thorn.

Patience/Peace vs Wrath: Patience/Wrath. Lirandel carries the sin with a certain contemplation behind it. Although he will not lose his temper that often. Actually it is very rare. When he does though, the Thorn, that have seen it happen, knows to get out of the way. His wrath stems from a cold (patient) tactical mind, that is why he sometimes appear gloomy and brooding.

Meekness/Kindness vs Envy: Envy. He envies his kin's purity. This is a part of the plot I have made for him so I wont go into details here.

Humility vs Pride: Pride. As Sayvara said, the responsability of being leader forces him to be between these poles. Which irritates him. Suffice to say Lirandel is not the best of leaders. And he is an elf, in human lands, training a score of humans. He can be polite though, but there is a certain edge to his humility at all times... But as stated before he doesnt let his pride get the best of him.

Chastity vs Lust: Lust. Felaion's Lust has never been fully realised. His Lust for Life is the driving force behind his cowardice, but he suffers Lust for a woman in the conventional sense, thus his inability to settle. The idea of being 'chaste' is almost hillarious to him, as he honestly cares only about himself, and making the most of life.
Moderation vs Gluttony: Gluttony. He's never going to turn down food, drink, or celebrations. So long as he's not paying. he takes nothing in moderation, and will grab everything he can.
Generosity vs Greed: Greed. The choice between giving and taking is quickly made by Felaion. Take what you can, and give nothing back.
Zeal vs Sloth: Neutral. Felaion is certainly not Lazy, having worked as a farmer for most of his life, but neither is he particually eager to work.
Peace vs Wrath: Peace. There is some virtue in Felaion. He's never suffered from any form of bloodlust, or rage. He's honestly a gentle person at heart.
Kindness vs Envy: Envy. Felaion envies what others have, and destroys his self-esteem in doing so. Greed and Lust blot out any Kindness he may or may not have.
Humility vs Pride: Pride. He may deny it but, Felaion is a proud Gondorian, and honestly believes there is no greater nation in Middle-Earth, at least for his fathers sake.

Lust vs. Chastity - Chastity. While 'Wulf is quite the romantic at heart, he (currently, again his past is a mystery to him for now) isn't one to commit himself, as he is constantly aware of the possibility of his death. While 'Wulf is something of a charmer, it never progresses to anything remotely physical.

Gluttony vs. Temperance - 'Wulf's training at the hands of the Elves has invested him with a very temperate way of life. He seldom drinks, never smokes, and never over-indulges, especially because he seldom has opportunity to, spending so much of his time living rough in the wilderness while travelling.

Greed vs. Charity - Phindor has raised Haelewulf to be a charitable soul, who helps those in need when he can. He seldom has much money, but is always looking to aid a fellow adventurer. His tendency towards "hero mode" has been remarked upon with some amusement by Felaion in particular, especially when beautiful young women are involved.

Sloth vs. Zeal - Well, zeal, because Haelewulf's always ready for scrap. He travels from place to place almost constantly, and trains hard, although his motivations are usually for recognition and to excel.

Wrath vs. Composure - Wrath. There's more of this in 'Wulf's past than he realizes, but it manifests even now as complete ruthlessness and psychopathic tendencies in combat. Likewise, the longer he fights, the more his rage slips from cold fury to outright bloodlust.

Envy vs. Kindness - Neutral. Haelewulf envies Lirandel's fighting prowess, but not to the point where he dislikes Lirandel because of it. He also wishes he was better off financially, but not to the point where he doesn't rejoice in his comrades' good fortune.

Humility vs. Pride - Pride. Haelewulf is proud to the point of arrogance, in both his martial abilities, and his conviction that no one knows better than him. This makes him very resistent to authority, and also somewhat eager to assert his role as "hero."

Chastity vs Lust Neither. As a hobbit Archibold is perfectly faithful to just one partner.
Conservative and innocent.

Moderation vs Gluttony: Gluttony. Work hard but party harder , actually partying and celebrating is a daily routine.

Generosity vs Greed: Generosity and Greed. As usual for hobbit adventuring parties , they are on the quest to bring ritches to hobbiton , so it could be called greed. But since Archibold has no measure of value he brings with him , he is always to ready to give it away.

Zeal vs Sloth: Hyperactivity. Archibold is extremely curious and he almost knows no fear.
He is constantly on the move , and finds it hard to stay put.

Patience/Peace vs Wrath: Impulsive and prone to cause trouble. Strongly against harming others or any kind of violence. However he is ready to fight with zeal when it comes to monster races.

Meekness/Kindness vs Envy: Kindness. Archibold's kindness borders with naivetie of 4 year old child. He believes everybody is good. And he finds it very hard to understand evil or borderline behavior. For him evil is a clear trait of servants of mordor , and all free people are pure as white snow.

Humility vs Pride: Pride. Proudness and bragging are Archibolds trademarks. He will enlarge every story tree fold and make himself or another that traveled with him into an epic super hero.
He also hates to be called small , young or weak. He is after all Archibold Daringfoot the giantslayer !
